Vol. 08 – Chapter 8 To the Imperial Border

Be Warned, this content is Machine Translated with some editing done from my part. I also try to read the Japanese text and use a dictionary like jisho.org, but my Japanese is at the very beginner level (hiragana, katakana, and less than 500 kanji), so don’t expect much.

I may or may not remove a very small amount of content, only if I wasn’t able to get a good translation, and didn’t affect the story.

I don’t know what happened to isogashii, but he’s probably isogashii (to be busy). I appreciate his work, and I also hope some of you appreciate my effort. (if you read this isogashii, I hope you don’t mind me, and you keep doing your stuff, I’m not try to rush you, or takeover. And thanks for your hard work.)

Harem Shujinkou

We gathered in the living room and decided to discuss the trip from tomorrow with Francesca.

First of all, it takes about a week to reach Fort Blumdar on the Hiragis border. It’s four days from there to Ken no Sato.

Two days away from Ken no Sato to Ellie’s parents’ house. If you can go without a detour, it will be a two-week trip.

“So fast!”

Francesca, who heard the story, shouts. It usually takes two months to get to the fort by wagon. And the fastest could take no less than a month. Not to mention how long this trip would be on foot.

“Originally, the speed will be higher.”

This time, nine people plus full equipment for actual battle will be a considerable amount of weight.

If I wanted to get there faster, with only me and Lillia, lightly dressed, and using my summoned horse, Makenzie, while Lillia rests could get to the fort in two days. Then from there I just use gate to gather everyone. But there is no reason to hurry that much. Besides we have Fran with us right now.

The air spirit fly has a cruising speed of about 50 km / h. And although Lillia will not get tired from using spirit magic, she will still need time to let the spirit recover their power. We can probably manage to fly from 8 o’clock to dawn, getting a break every two hours.

Only for tomorrow, I’ll ask the elves help me get me halfway to a town that’s near the imperial border. Then we’ll proceed from there. By night, he will enter the imperial territory, aiming to travel along the border.

“Why go through such a route again?”

Francesca asks.

Why bother to choose a route that doesn’t even have a highway? That’s because there are inquirers within our party. Arrangements may be circulating in post towns along the highway.

“I want to fly the shortest distance, and I’m planning to hunt along the way as well.”

Well, the latter is not a lie either. Priority will be given to movement, but if you can see it, hunt it. It will also serve as a way to earn experience and practical training for Will and Shira-chan.

“Yes!”

Francesca’s face changed when she heard that about the hunting.

“Have you ever fought a demon?”

“I have been part of a subjugation squat, however, I have never fought directly.”

It seems to be the same pattern as with Lilia, whose companions were concerned about her safety.

“Can you handle the bow?”

“Similar to most people.”

“Then is the rearguard position better?”

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a rearguard in an emergency? Usually, it is in the safest position.

“I like the vanguard position, no I want the vanguard position.”

“I don’t think the sword will come into play, but we’ll see.”

Two vanguards in the front, with me and Sati as backup. Francesca is definitely not in the game.

“Please make it vanguard.”

Well, it should be ok I guess.

With this the content of the trip itself was explained to some extent, and the meeting was over without any further discussion. Tomorrow morning we’ll head back to the village. go to pick up Shira-chan’s equipment, and then we’ll be ready for our departure.

“Then everyone, let’s take a rest and get ready for tomorrow.”

I want to rest when I can rest, at least I thought so, but then I was quietly invited by Sati to do some training.

I’m heading to the sacred place of the sword for training, and I may experience near death multiple times while at it, at least I was warned as so by Sergeant. There is also that technique he showed me, and his expectations for the next time we meet.

“OK, let’s train!”

“Yes!”

“Well, shall we do it until it gets dark?”

That technique of Sergeant-dono, I wonder if I can beat Francesca if I can reproduce it?

The person in charge of tonight’s service seems to be Angela. She’s shy when she’s outside, and I haven’t spend time with her lately, so today I’ll have plenty of time to deal with her.

・ ・ ・ ・ --- ・ - ・ ・ ・ ・

We leave the royal family early in the morning and take two Elves with us to help with our flying schedule. Basically, alongside Lilia, there will be three elves performing the flight. Each one will fly to the limit, then recover while the other two take their turn.

We’ll be passing along a relatively safe road, so we will only have the minimum equipment required to reduce the weight to fly.

Nothing happened in the morning. Well, it’s the main route between the royal family and the empire. It seems that demons or bandits won’t come out so much even if we trail off the route a little. Sometimes my detection reaction to a small group can be slow, so maybe I missed something, but probably not anything worth it.

But after the first break in the afternoon, probably near the border, I finally detected a group.

They don’t appear to be human.

“Lilia, slow down. There’s something up ahead.”

Is it roughly a group of about thirty to forty? Since the forest is deep, we can’t visually confirm from here, so after approaching to some extent, we’ll descend to the ground to confirm.

“Based on their growling, probably orcs.”

Sati searches with her auditory detection and reports.

“Let’s annihilate them.”

Everyone nods to my words.

“Sati wait, if you see an orc king or someone that looks threatening, immediately defeat them with your bow.”

Even if they’re just orcs, if a king class or other variants are mixed in the group it may be dangerous for our new recruits.

“Yes, Masaru-sama”

This should be a good measure against orc variants. What else should we do? The group consists of little less than 40 orcs. The orc is not really such a formidable opponent, and I’d like to leave them to Will and Shira-chan so they can earn experience points, but isn’t it a bit dangerous for them?

“Isn’t it better to use Masaru’s suggested method first, then leave the remaining group to Will and Shira?”

If we reduce the group to some extent and have them attack while they’re confused, then the amount of danger will be smaller. This sounds like a good plan.

“That’s right. Will and Shira should also try to reduce their numbers with a bow, then change to a sword and defeat them.

Will and Shira-chan nodded with a tense look on their faces. We start approaching and get ready for action.

This is going to be their first actual battle with their new equipment, but I’ve confirmed their movements in the last few days, and both of them have level 5 swordsmanship. They should do just fine.

Not only regular orcs but also their King class should be of no problem as long as they’re careful.

I decided to have Lilia take charge of the preemptive attack. Lilia may be at a higher level, and she has level 5 spirit magic, but she still needs more experience.

“What about me?”

“Fran should wait for now. If it starts to look dangerous for them, please help them.”

“Understood”

I slowly approach and have Will, Shira-chan and Lilia follow right behind me. Shira-chan’s dark armor is relatively quiet, but she is being a bit noisy. Good thing the armor is of great quality, otherwise it could be worse. Cheap equipment is definitely not good.

As we got closer to our targets, and not having a place to hide anymore, the 33 orcs finally found us. It seems there is no longer a problem with the sound.

“Lilia!”

Immediately after my call, Lilia started chanting. She seemed slightly worn out by the flying, but she is handling the situation pretty well, I should give her a pass.

“Air Storm!”

Lilia’s air storm explodes in the middle of an orc group heading towards us. Have five or six been blown away? I also defeated the orcs that seemed to be the bosses of the flock. There seems to be no orc king in the visual range.

Will and Shira began to shoot arrows. Will is archery level 1 and Shira-chan is level 4. The high-level Shira-chan is steadily killing the orcs. Will has a poor hit rate. It is difficult to aim for an orc that moves around in a densely populated forest.

An arrow flew from the orc only once, but Satei killed the orc that fired the bow. The orc’s arrow is blocked by the clay wall that Erie made.

Could I have defeated about 10 animals by the time they were approached? The rest are about 20 animals.

The turmoil caused by the magic attack earned me a fair amount of time, but the flock was dispersed and I couldn’t reduce the number very much.

Will laid down his bow and quickly switched to his sword and shield. Shira-chan is asking a little.

Will came forward and defeated the first orc. Shira-chan will switch to a sword later.

The timing of switching to a sword can be a little dangerous. From the next time onward, it seems better to make it faster or to put out the earth wall beforehand.

“Hey, do I still have to wait in support?”

Francesca is aching for some action and begins to draw out her sword. To be honest, I’m worried, but it should be fine.

“It’s okay for them right now, instead, look over there. Some of them are going around the area plotting something. Let’s defeat them.”

They seem somewhat intelligent, and five of them are quietly approaching from the side of the woods. A party that is not careful can be easily destroyed by a surprise attack.

“Leave it to me!”

With Francesca, about five would be okay, but she’s currently wearing leather armor with weak defenses, and it will be troublesome if an accident occurs.

“Let’s go at them one vs one”

It seems that the orcs’ strategy was to spread sideways and attack all at once. But it seems I’m not needed, since Ann, Eri, Tilika, Lilia and now Fran included can fight one each.

“Sati, stay vigilant. We’ll look after Will and Shira for now.”

“Yes”

An orc in a strange dragon screamed and screamed at her, but she came, but four of them fell instantly due to the waiting method.

The last one was easily defeated by Francesca’s sword while his companion fell and was confused and stood up.

It seems that both of them are over. A few surviving orcs are running away. Shira-chan switched to a bow and fired an arrow, though she wouldn’t be able to catch up with the two heavily-armed men. One, two and Shira-chan’s arrow collapses. But the last one was quite far away. I’m going to miss it.

“Sati”

Sati immediately fired an arrow in my words. Hit the back of Orc, which is about the size of a bean in a dense forest of trees, so that an arrow is sucked into it.

The last orc also collapsed. There is no survivor in the detection range.

The sense of stability is different when there is a Yahari avant-garde. From the front, you can crush it without any tricks.

If you’re a Lilia spirit guard and you’re about an arrow, don’t worry, and if your enemies seem to be tough, you can use earth magic to create a proper position. If you build a strong fort, it doesn’t matter if the enemy is 10 times or 20 times this.

The best thing about having two more people is that I don’t work at this level and the windows are good. So look at the situation

I can afford to think about how to deal with it.

“Is it the end of the bath?”

Francesca seems to be dissatisfied with the scenes where he is particularly active.

“Well, this much is to be expected from orcs.”

Both of them were able to fight in a stable manner, to a point that we didn’t even need the first Magic attack.

Sati is having them confirm all the orcs are dead. Making sure there are no survivors should be common sense for any adventurer, yet I remember letting my guard down that time during the elf invasion.

“What should we do now? Keep going or explore the area a little?”

So Elie asked. It’s possible that there are still swarms of demons outside of our detection range…

“Let’s collect materials and move on.”

This time we’ll carefully exterminate every demon along our path. Unless we find a good reason to explore the area further, we should keep moving. But where do these demons really come from, I wonder?

・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ ・

Around the time the sunset turned red, Sati discovered a village. It was a little out of the way, so we could have easily missed it, but Sati could see the smoke rising from the village. It’s evening, so it’s probably due to the villagers cooking.

“Right timing, we should ask for an inn or some sort of accommodation in that village.”

In remote villages, priest Angela comes into play.

When we landed near the gate of the guarded village, the guards were alarmed for a moment, but as soon as they found out there was a priest, we were welcomed. There, near the gate, was an elderly person who presented himself as the village chief.

“We are on a journey, can we ask for an overnight stay?”

Ann asks the Village chief.

“We don’t mind, but I don’t know if we can provide safe accommodation.”

If you look at it, they seem to be in a rather alarmed situation. A good number of people gather around with weapons on hand, and it seems unlikely that they’re gathering to guard the gate.

“A group of Harpies came flying a few days ago. We managed to repel them once, but…”

Ann glanced at me and I nodded lightly.

All harpies should just go ahead and die. They’re just a bunch of cowards that like to gang up against the weak, and are also known for holding grudges. I don’t say it only because of what they did to me, I’m being honest here, yes.

I look at Tilika just in case, but it seems unlikely that the villagers are trying to deceive us with something like this.

“Okay, we’ll do something about it.”

“Is that true?”

“Do you know the location of their nest?”

“They seem to come from that direction, Priest-sama.”

That information should be enough. Let’s go and defeat them, and then afterwards I’ll get to sleep on a futon.

“I will remain here.”

Anne seems to want to remain here to provide treatment and missionary work. But then, what if some of the harpies come and attack again, it may be better to leave someone else with her.

“Then I will remain as an escort.” – Will?

“Fran should also remain as an escort this time.”

“But I want to go too!”

Francesca seems dissatisfied with my decision.

“But Fran won’t be very useful against flying enemies, and you promised to listen to us during this journey, didn’t you?”

There are some skills we can’t show Francesca, so if we can leave her behind, it’s better to do it.

“Muu …”

“In any case, this time it’s our turn as magicians. There will be no turn for sword fighters.”

I would like them to earn experience points, but this time protecting this village takes priority. We’ll have to make sure to annihilate those pesky harpies completely off the face of this earth. This time again, the first strike will be provided by Lilia.

Let’s do it.

“We’ll be back soon, so please wait for us.”

“Be careful, everyone”

We were sent off by Ann and the villagers, and flew away.

This will be the second time we encounter a large group of monsters today. I wonder if these kinds of encounters are more common now that we’re close to the border.

It can also be due to our speed of movement. If we’re traveling five times faster than usual, then it shouldn’t be abnormal for our encounter rate to also increase as well.

So if we have encountered two hordes of demons so far, can we really say they are many? It’s the Item box that I’m worried about though. I hope we don’t keep encountering cheap things like orcs and harpies, or at this rate I may have to throw away my precious rock collection.

Not long after we started flying in the directions we were pointed to, we were able to spot the first nest.

After some light scouting, I had Lilia slam her Level 5 Air Magic at each of their nests.

We proceed to collect the harpies’ corpses and finish after making sure there are no signs of any surviving ones. It has really become an easy task for our current party.

Many of the nests were in the process of being built, so it seems that they had just moved in recently.

“Thank you for the hard work, Lilia. It’s a big success today.”

“No, it’s me who’s thankful for letting me have all the fun while earning experience points.”

Well, she’s not wrong that it can be fun for a magician to destroy enemies from a safe distance, especially if compared to a sword fighter. But for the elves the bow also plays an active part during defense battles, so even sword fighters can have a chance to earn experience points.

“Let’s go back”

Just in case, I sent my summoned owl to do some reconnaissance and then decided to return to the village.

It was completely dark by the time we decided to return, but a large fire was lit up brightly by the villagers, so we easily found our destination.

“How was it?”

One of the village gatekeepers worriedly asked.

“It’s okay. We found their nests and annihilated them.”

Oohh!! The villagers cheer.

However, I’m not sure if there are other nests. I’m scouting with an owl, which has good night vision, but when I think about it, harpies stay in their nest during the night, so it’s still possible to miss them.

“Ann… What about our priest?”

“If you are looking for the priest, she is staying at the chief’s house.”

“Then take this.”

I release some of the harpies’ corpses into the square in front of the gate. It also serves as proof that we’ve defeated them.

“Here are some of the defeated harpies. Please share them among the villagers.”

So what about our lodging for the night? I wish they can provide a single room for me and my wives.

I’m currently looking for volume 10, please let me know where to find it, or if you can provide me with a copy of it. I’m currently using scanned novels, so I don’t mind a scanned version, but an epub or text version would be helpful.

If you want to help me release faster, helping me with the OCR process, editing, spellchecking among other things, would be great. Please let me know.

  • Tenohira Pioneer Village Vol. 1 – Prologue

I was walking through a newly built village in the slightly fragrant sea breeze. Most of the village is made up of fields and orchards, and you can see sheep and buffalo grazing in the distance. The white cobblestone road that runs through the village is unbelievably magnificent.

  1. this is pretty good, especially for MTL. Granted, the language is simple but at least there are very few grammar issues and the meaning doesn’t get lost.

    Like

  2. Not right now, but If I catch up to this novel, then I may think about it. Though being honest I’d rather leave that job to proper translators. MTL is a nightmare, and trying to fix that nightmare is another nightmare altogether.

  3. Thanks man, I appreciate the effor! Especially that it is not pure unedited MTL!
BTW What happened with the original translator?

  4. Prior TL is a nice guy, and has done a great job till now, but he has been known to disappear for long stretches without warning. Irl or otherwise its up to him to come back to it or not, just wish he’d give heads up.
I miss the other novel he was doing Dark magician as Hero, but that’s a bit more ecchi.
